Firefly

The wind blew leaves around her ankles in swirls of red and orange. Wrapped inside her thin raincoat, she shivered due to the frigid air. Her countenance was one of narrowed concentration in avoiding the large puddles along the sidewalks and the assembled piles of dirt and leaves swept off of someone’s lawn. Her pigtails, thick and drawn out to a little point on the end, swung and bounced with each step she took. With her head bowed, she hugged her backpack tighter around her chest. It had been discovered, about a few blocks back, that holding her backpack around her chest made her warmer. Still, the recurrent gales sent tremors through her body and goosebumps on her skin. Silently, she counted her steps, rushing through the shivers of leaves on the ground now and then. The winter air cast back on the dawning fact that winter was here. Light was leaving at six o’clock. It would be soon that her mother would forbid her to walk alone after gymnastics. She couldn’t help but let out...

Once

Once, a long time ago, you promised promised that you'd be here forever promised that nothing could separate us promised that we would never be farther then right here promised that we could hold hands through every trouble every joy Once, a long time ago, you said said that I would always be in your heart said that you would never ever stop talking to me said that this would last forever and beyond said that a blank space would be the worst to come between us Once, a long time ago, we were together together in the universe together in the oceans together in the sky together on Earth together in my heart and yours Then everything all wiped out what separated us first was the great blue sea and thousands of miles of journey emails flying back and forth expressing tears of sorrow Then what was left was stolen too what separated us then was the blank white space the only thing that could come between us silence that echoed everywhere expressing only something lost With nothing left wh...

Revenge

When I look up I see him watching me. His air is superior, his stance formidable. But in his eyes I see the fear, and around him I smell the fear on his face. I know that I will win this battle, but I don’t move. “Stay. Stay...back.” He quivers, his voice shaking. He coughs. I narrow my eyes a little, and he scoots backwards a little on his bottom. In his hands is a small black item. I wonder briefly what it is, but ignore it. I have all the power a girl can have right now. My sensitive nose picks up so many smells around him. Some I can identify, like the cigarette smell Papa always had. Lavendar perfume of a girl something similar to the smell of Ma’s rose perfume. A strange, metally tinge around his feet. As his feet stretch closer to me and his face farther, the metal smell increases. Taken aback, I shimmy backwards. Encouraged, he attempts a vicious smile. “You. You….stay.” He says, his voice a little smaller. Growling, I let a purr rip through my throat. A wild g...

Lament

She could see them. She could see the color of their eyes and the glitter in their hair. Red eyes, she remembers. And gold glitter. She remembers that she screamed, screamed in fear of what was coming. It was them, and they were finally coming to get her. She raises her hands in defense, as if the whiteness of her palms will drive them away. They hiss and lash, eager to move. Her legs are so frozen. Her face drips with cold sweat and her eyes blink feverishly in the dark. In the midst of her fear she remembers that she was once beautiful. Once beautiful before they came. She tries to remember days when she walked through the house feeling beautiful, tries to remember the days that she was free and flying, days where she was not afraid. But her fear and panic weigh down her head and clamp her to the dark, dark ground and she cannot see anything but them. They creep forwards slowly, taunting her. Breaking the silence with cackles every few moments, they twist and turn...

Truth

The eye full of darkness is the portal to the world give back the dark for the light Balance, balance of the red gold sun break hearts and mold them back together reach into minds for the dark light for the words that stain pure Take only what is light no matter how dark Find the heart in the mind let the light blind and break the darkness to the dark Find only what is light for the eye full of light is the key to the world
